In today’s world, we’re all concerned about indoor air quality and how it can impact our health. Many of our worries are related to Covid-19, but there is also a growing need to protect against smoke from wildfires and the chemicals and VOC’s often found in our homes.

To address your concerns, we take a look inside our units, and examine exactly how they work to protect you and your family.

The importance of HEPA

Here at Austin Air, we use 60 sq. ft of True Medical Grade HEPA in all our filters. This ensures a long filter life and the effective removal of airborne contaminants such as dander, pollen, mold, PM10, PM2.5, bacteria and viruses*.

HEPA is short for High Efficiency Particulate Arrestance. The True HEPA we use is heavily regulated and must meet stringent standards. All True HEPA must be capable of filtering 99.97% of particles that are 0.3 microns or larger and 99% of particles down to 0.1 microns in size. It’s the only filtration system able to trap the smallest and most dangerous of particles. Many of our competitors use HEPA filters or the less effective ‘HEPA type’ filters. However, only Austin Air use 60 sq. ft of True Medical Grade HEPA, guaranteeing protection from contaminants and a much longer filter life.

How does it work?

Pollutants are drawn into our units via a 360-degree air intake system. The contaminated air passes through the HEPA and carbon filter, where the pollutants are trapped. Clean air is then pushed back into the room via a directional export vent. This is a strictly one-way system. The air has to pass through the sealed filter before it is released back into the room.

This ensures two things. Firstly, the directional export vent guarantees the entire room is free from pollutants, not just the air directly around the unit. And secondly, the sealed filter keeps pollutants trapped inside, with no way to escape.

And there’s more

We also use a large quantity of Activated Carbon and Zeolite in our filters. When used together, Carbon and Zeolite have an exceptional capacity for the adsorption of gases and odors, VOC’s and chemicals such as benzenes. Some of our units also use Potassium Iodide Impregnated Carbon, this guarantees the effective removal of formaldehyde and other pollutants such as nitrogen dioxide and ammonias from your home.

Our unique design, together with a comprehensive filtration system, guarantees exceptional cleaning capacity and an unrivalled filter life. If you’d like to learn more about our range of air purifiers and what they can do for you, take a look at our shop page today.

*Covid-19 is a new strain of virus that as yet, remains untested. However, the Medical Grade HEPA technology used in our filters is proven to remove up to 99% of all airborne contaminants as small as 0.1 microns.
